PGK DANCE! in ‘Holding Tight’

Featuring guest company Unsicker Dance Collective of Portland, Oregon

PGK DANCE’s NEW WORLD Premiere Show “Holding Tight” features new works by 4 award winning, diverse choreographers from across the U.S.

“Foreign” by award winning choreographer Kymberly Kellems is an intricate, compelling group work in the well known, robust, driving style she is known for that keeps audiences on the edge of their seat while challenging PGK Dancers in a world of both instability and grace.

Award winning choreographer, Shauna Tyser creates her first work for PGK DANCE! entitled “EDGE” with breathtaking, sweeping music by: Dardust. “Edge” conjures a place where PGK dancers are at a constant tipping point, on the precipice, taking risk after risk that may result in falling.

GUEST COMPANY: Unsicker Dance Collective of Portland, Oregon makes their California debut performing their critically acclaimed, audience favorite “Scrambled” to electronic music framing a forever landscape of complex duets amongst the five riveting dancers revealing freshly, inventive movements and luscious, quirky interactions.

Founding Director, Peter G. Kalivas reimagines his popular body percussion-based piece “The Sound of Dance” which highlights his own vocal prowess as a versatile singer during a duet with tap dancer Nicolas Gilbertson and reveals the fun personalities audiences enjoy most about PGK DANCERS enhanced by the amplified sounds they make from their movements. At one point, audiences become the music performing body percussion moves on their own conducted by Kalivas accompanying his dance!

“Holding Tight” is the finale piece by Kalivas, one of his most aggressively dramatic works that doesn’t let go of the sculpted quality and craft that has earned him choreographic awards around the world. His direction pushes the dancers to their absolute thrilling limits as this piece spills off the stage and into the audience space. Percussion based music by Jlin and Shakelton pulsates throughout the theater pushing this intense dance further and farther.
