July: Round House by Louise Erdich
Winner of the 2012 National Book Award for Fiction
A coming-of -age tale set in 1988 on the Ojibwe Reservation in North Dakota. Thirteen-year- old Joe Coutts’ life changes when a tragedy strikes his mom. Now, Joe wants answers and revenge, with help from his friends, in this acclaimed book by award winning author Louise Erdich.
August: Marriage at Sea by Sophie Elmhurst
In 1973, Maurice and Maralyn Bailey were sailing toward the Galápagos Islands when a sperm whale rammed their yacht and left them stranded at sea for the next 118 days on a tiny inflatable raft and 9-foot dinghy. Elmhirst has turned the British couple’s tale of survival into a portrait of a marriage. A true story!! And we know, truth is stranger than fiction. A beach read! Well, ocean read.
September: Liberation by Bess Wohl
This year’s Pulitzer Prize winning play, nominated for several Tonys. A woman tells the story of her mother in a consciousness raising group in the 1970’s and the choices women made then and are still making now. A thought proving story that asks, “Have we really come a long way, baby”? A play that had successful runs both On and Off-Broadway, a rarity for a woman playwright.
