ACT NOW: Protect LGBTQIA+ Housing

Take Action – Join us in urging the SD Board of Supervisors to sustain funding for housing services that provide vital support for LGBTQIA+ people in San Diego County.

The County’s recommended budget, released on May 1st, does not include the requested $3 million allocation to sustain LGBTQIA+ housing. Now is the time to use your voice and show our County Supervisors just how important these programs are to our community. We need YOU to let them know directly that you, as their constituent, expect them to invest County dollars in vital LGBTQIA+ housing services. Use the template below to send an email to your County District Office and register your position TODAY! Please copy advocacy@thecentersd.org to your email so we can keep track of the number of letters sent.

Subject: I support fully funding Innovative Adult Housing Services and Enhanced Housing Services in the County Budget

Dear Supervisor [Insert your supervisor’s last name here],

My name is [insert name], my pronouns are [insert pronouns like she/her, they/them], and I am a resident of County District [insert district number]. I am writing to you today to urge you to include a $3 million allocation for two housing contracts in the County’s final budget.

The Innovative Adult Housing Services and Enhanced Housing Services programs have been immensely successful in providing stable housing and wrap-around services to vulnerable populations, including LGBTQIA+ individuals, preventing homelessness and improving quality of life. The data shows that these programs have already tripled their client goals, demonstrating their effectiveness, efficiency, and necessity.

While San Diego continues to experience a housing and homelessness crisis, now is NOT the time to cut funding to critical services that help our community remain in their homes and off the streets. We understand that it is a difficult budget year, but our budget cuts cannot come at the expense of the communities who need the most support.

I respectfully urge you to include $3 million allocated to Innovative Adult Housing Services and Enhanced Housing Services in the County’s final budget in order to sustain critical housing services.

Sincerely,

[Insert name, pronouns, and district]
