The San Diego LGBT Community Center’s Training Institute works with a variety of individuals, organizations, businesses, and social service organizations to strengthen knowledge and skills in working with the LGBTQ+ community. The needs of the LGBTQ+ community are ever evolving. The Center’s Training Institute is here to support you by covering a broad range of topics.  All trainings are led by our knowledgeable and skilled staff members at The Center. 

We create custom trainings for individuals and organizations. If you are interested in a training, please let us know and we can put together a plan and contract specifically for you.  Request a training from the Training Institute with our online form.

LGBTQ2S+ OPIOID & STIMULANT USE PREVENTION TRAINING

Apply evidence-based prevention practices using culturally relevant methods

Join The Center’s Training Institute for a free webinar on opioid and stimulant use prevention in the LGBTQ2S+ community.

In this training you will learn about:

  • Substance use trends in the LGBTQ2S+ population, including opioid and stimulant use trends.  
  • Unique cultural needs of the LGBTQ2S+ community to develop prevention messaging and programs, and develop tools to help meet those needs.

MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS TRAINING

LGBTQ+ People and Homelessness

In this training you will learn how to:

  • Develop LGBTQ+ inclusive language for unhoused community members and learn about associated health disparities.
  • Provide safe, affirming, and competent services to LGBTQ+ people who show signs and symptoms of mental health challenges and are at risk of or are experiencing homelessness.
  • Recognize mental health signs and symptoms for LGBTQ+ people who are at risk of or are experiencing homelessness.
  • Apply LGBTQ+ adaptations to SAMHSA’s evidence-based Treatment Improvement Protocol (TIP55) – Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) protocol for behavioral health service providers.

STOP THE HATE LGBTQ+ TRAINING


In this training you will learn how to:

  • Identify LGBTQ+ hate speech, hate incidents, and hate crime definitions and statistics.
  • Apply LGBTQ+ inclusive language, de-escalation strategies, and self-care tips.
  • Report hate incidents and hate crimes.
  • Share resources for victim support services and information about rights for survivorss
