The San Diego LGBT Community Center’s Training Institute works with a variety of individuals, organizations, businesses, and social service organizations to strengthen knowledge and skills in working with the LGBTQ+ community. The needs of the LGBTQ+ community are ever evolving. The Center’s Training Institute is here to support you by covering a broad range of topics. All trainings are led by our knowledgeable and skilled staff members at The Center.
We create custom trainings for individuals and organizations. If you are interested in a training, please let us know and we can put together a plan and contract specifically for you. Request a training from the Training Institute with our online form.

LGBTQ2S+ Opioid and Stimulant Use Prevention Training
LGBTQ+ People and Homelessness
In this free training you will learn how to:
- Identify opioids and stimulants substance use trends in the LGBTQ2S+ community
- Understand unique cultural needs of the community in developing inclusive language and harm-reduction programs
- Learn preventative tools and strategies to meet these needs

MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS TRAINING
LGBTQ+ People and Homelessness
In this free training you will learn how to:
- Develop LGBTQ+ inclusive language for unhoused community members and learn about associated health disparities.
- Provide safe, affirming, and competent services to LGBTQ+ people who show signs and symptoms of mental health challenges and are at risk of or are experiencing homelessness.
- Recognize mental health signs and symptoms for LGBTQ+ people who are at risk of or are experiencing homelessness.
- Apply LGBTQ+ adaptations to SAMHSA’s evidence-based Treatment Improvement Protocol (TIP55) – Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) protocol for behavioral health service providers.

STOP THE HATE LGBTQ+ TRAINING
In this training you will learn how to:
- Identify LGBTQ+ hate speech, hate incidents, and hate crime definitions and statistics.
- Apply LGBTQ+ inclusive language, de-escalation strategies, and self-care tips.
- Report hate incidents and hate crimes.
- Share resources for victim support services and information about rights for survivors
