Crisis Services at The Center: LGBTQ+ Crisis Support When You Need It Most

Crisis Services team providing LGBTQ+ crisis support

It’s your diva, Isaac Snyder (he/him), the Lead On-Duty Client Crisis Responder at The Center, and I’m honored to share more about the valuable LGBTQ+ crisis support we offer to our community through Crisis Services at The Center.

LGBTQ crisis support for hate crimesIn a moment when anti-LGBTQ hostility is increasing and many support systems are being weakened or dismantled, more members of our community are finding themselves in vulnerable situations without reliable places to turn. Crisis Services exists to meet community members in moments of urgency, uncertainty, or transition, providing the care, dignity, and support our community deserves.

The holiday season can be especially challenging for many LGBTQ+ people. Interpersonal conflict, rejection, or isolation from family can intensify during this time, leaving people without the support they need when it matters most. Crisis Services offers a compassionate touchpoint of care during these moments, providing connection and stability when other systems may not be accessible.

Our Crisis Services team is available through walk-in visits, phone support, or ongoing assistance during a difficult chapter of life. We support individuals, couples, and families navigating urgent needs such as housing instability, health-related concerns, or sudden life disruptions. Our services include on-demand crisis intervention, responses to hate crimes and hate incidents, systems navigation, housing support, and connections to both The Center’s programs and trusted resources throughout San Diego County. All of our work is rooted in client-centered care that honors each person’s individual strengths, autonomy, and lived experience.

Beyond immediate crisis response, we also help with longer-term stabilization. This can include Covered California enrollment, medical and non-medical case management, and referrals that continue even after your initial contact with us. No matter the situation, our goal is always the same: to help people feel seen, supported, and empowered as they move toward stability and well-being.

We are proud to share that our Crisis Services team includes Spanish-speaking staff members, ensuring language access and culturally responsive care for more of our community.

Crisis Services is available Monday through Friday from 10am–7pm, and Saturdays from 10am–3pm. Please note that we will be closed on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve, and New Year’s Day.

Crisis Services reflects The Center’s commitment to being a welcoming, affirming place for LGBTQ+ and HIV-affected community members when they need support the most. We’re here to help, so come visit us in person or schedule an appointment by emailing onduty@thecentersd.org.
