LGBTQ+ Training Opportunities from The Center’s Training Institute

LGBTQ+ Training from Training Institute at The Center

I’m Noah Mixon (they/them), the Leadership Academy Coordinator for The Center’s Training Institute, and I’m excited to share information about the professional trainings we offer on LGBTQ+ issues, along with our upcoming free 2SLGBTQ+ Opioid and Stimulant Use Prevention training on March 19.

The Center’s Training Institute works with a variety of individuals, organizations, businesses, and social service organizations to strengthen their knowledge and skills in working with the LGBTQ+ community. As one of the largest LGBTQ+ organizations in the country, The Center is a leading provider of programs and services for the full diversity of the San Diego region.

Through serving clients, our team has developed and continually updates trainings to reflect the needs of our community members. Though there have been many advances in LGBTQ+ care from mainstream providers over the years, the needs of our community are ever evolving. In today’s political climate, inclusive work policies are being dismantled and hateful rhetoric has escalated, making our trainings even more critical to ensure LGBTQ+ issues continue to be addressed and LGBTQ+ people have access to safe workplaces and services.

The Center’s Training Institute is here to support folks in their learning by covering a broad range of topics including gender-affirming care, inclusive language in the workplace, supporting transgender and nonbinary employees, and more.

We offer several types of customized trainings to meet the learning objectives of each group. All trainings are led by our knowledgeable and skilled staff members at The Center, and we will meet with your team to discuss your specific needs. Our trainings will help your team feel confident in providing services and care to members of the LGBTQ+ community, and can help you foster a workplace environment that supports your LGBTQ+ team members.

In addition to professional trainings, we also offer free webinars to community members interested in advancing their own understanding of LGBTQ+ issues. On March 19, we are hosting a virtual training about 2SLGBTQ+ Opioid and Stimulant Use Prevention. This free webinar will apply evidence-based prevention practices using culturally relevant methods, to educate attendees on this issue that disproportionately affects our community.

Attendees will learn about substance use trends in the 2SLGBTQ+ community, the unique cultural needs of the community to develop prevention messaging and programs, and tools to help meet these needs. Register online to join!

Other training topics planned for this year include Mental Health and Awareness: LGBTQ+ People and Homelessness, and Trans(Gender) 101, which is taking place on March 23 in person at The Center during Trans Day of Visibility Week of Action.

Follow The Center on our social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn) to stay up-to-date on our upcoming training schedule.
