For over 50 years, The San Diego LGBT Community Center has uplifted and fought for the rights, equality, dignity, and joy of our vibrant and diverse LGBTQ+ community.
Throughout our history, there have been countless moments when our government has not recognized us, turned its back to our needs, or demonized our existence. In those moments of darkness, our community has come together to protect one another and fight back.
Our LGBTQ+ movement stands at the intersection of multiple other social justice movements— immigrant rights, workers’ rights, racial justice, reproductive justice, environmental justice, and more.
The success of our movements has always relied on our solidarity. In the face of hatred and bigotry, against all odds, we stand together, uplift our voices, and continue to envision a better, more equitable world.
In this moment, just as we have before, we will continue to live our values out loud and fight for what our community deserves: the right to love whom we choose and create our own families, the right to access gender-affirming care, the right to access safe and legal abortions, the right to seek asylum, and the right to exist as our authentic selves without fear of persecution, harassment, or violence. Even if you may feel isolated as an individual, you are not alone. We are fortunate to have a network of local elected officials and community leaders here in San Diego who reflect our community’s values and who are close partners of The Center in our fight for justice.
We are prepared to continue partnering with our local elected officials to support and protect our community amidst any attacks we may see from our federal government. On your darkest day and your brightest day, The Center is here for you. Your Center will continue to advocate, provide critical services, and create a safe and affirming space for our community. We did yesterday, we do today, and we will do so tomorrow and every day.
