In these challenging times, The Center recognizes the profound impact that immigration raids, deportations, and anti-immigration narratives have on LGBTQ+ migrants. These actions not only threaten the stability and safety of our community but also exacerbate anxieties around accessing immigrant resources and essential services such as healthcare, medication, housing, and shelter. The fear of being detained or deported can lead to avoidance of seeking necessary immigrant resources and support, further marginalizing those who are already vulnerable.
The Day 1 anti-immigrant executive actions signed by President Trump are meant to create an environment of fear and have real consequences for our refugee and immigrant communities. President Trump’s initiatives include suspending the CBP One app and the Refugee Admissions Program, barring asylum for new arrivals at the southern border, and attempting to end birthright citizenship.
At The San Diego LGBT Community Center, we are committed to providing immigrant resources, support, and a safe space to help navigate these uncertainties. We have created an resource page on our website at thecentersd.org/lgbtq-immigrants to provide information to LGBTQ+ immigrants about their rights and what to do if they encounter law enforcement. We will continue to monitor President Trump’s executive orders and update our resource page.
The Center stands with immigrants and refugees, and we will continue to advocate for the rights of every member of our community. You belong in our diverse and vibrant San Diego region.
