My name is Jacob Duarte (he/him), the Community Organizing and Power Building Specialist at The Center, and I’m excited to share a sensational event we are bringing to our community that is equal parts spectacle, solidarity, and fun! On April 16 from 6:30-9pm, The Center is hosting Serving FACE: Runway for Revolution, a free community fashion show at Urban Mo’s that will transform civic engagement into something bold, joyful, and undeniably fabulous—and we want you to be part of it!
Serving FACE: Runway for Revolution is your chance to participate in an innovative fashion show and help us build real community power ahead of the 2026 midterms. We are inviting community members, artists, organizers, performers, and fashion disruptors to walk the runway in one of three themed categories. Never walked a runway before? That’s more than fine. No professional runway experience is required—all you need is commitment, creativity, and confidence. A panel of guest judges will determine the winners, and the winner of each category will receive a $250 Visa gift card!
If you are not interested in walking the run way, you can still show up to spectate and cheer on all the participants. Admission is free to all attendees and participants, and we will provide complimentary food.
Please RSVP to watch the show (standing room only), grab food, and soak it all in, OR sign up to compete by April 15 in one of three runway categories:
- Eat the Rich: Marie Antoinette decadence collides with revolutionary fury in this category that refuses to pick just one side of the barricade. You can go full grotesque opulence: fake diamonds dripping, corsets cinched, excess piled upon excess until it all threatens to collapse under its own weight. Or you can flip the script entirely and embody the forces tearing it down. Labor organizers, liberation fighters, people who have simply had enough and aren’t going back. The more provocative, the better. Make them feel it.
- AI Apocalypse: Cyberpunk with a conscience. The machines have taken over, the algorithms are running the show, and we’re all just trying to survive the timeline. Come as a glitching robot, a corporate-owned android, a rogue AI who’s gone off-script, or a human survivor of the algorithmic end times. Think surveillance states, gig workers replaced by lines of code, and rebels who refuse to be treated like expendable hardware. The dystopia is the aesthetic. Wear it well.
- We Shall Over-Accessorize: This category is a love letter to maximalism in its purest form. Stack it, layer it, drape it, pile it, bedazzle every inch. Hats on top of hats. Bags hanging off bags. Jewels stacked on jewels until you are practically a walking art installation. There is no ceiling here, only the sky and then more accessories above that. The winner is simply whoever commits most completely and unapologetically to the philosophy that you can never, ever have too much.
Beyond the runway, the night will also feature performances from two incredible drag artists, Whorchata and Amber St. James, and plenty of time to connect with your community ahead of the June primaries—because our vote is our voice, and that voice is loudest when we show up together.
This night belongs to our community, so come be part of it!
